University Identification
Use Â鶹¹ÙÍø Dartmouth for most situations.
- It is acceptable to use Â鶹¹ÙÍøD in more casual situations (student stories, etc.).
- In very formal situations, the Â鶹¹ÙÍø may be appropriate for the first reference. Then, use Â鶹¹ÙÍø Dartmouth. There is no hyphen, comma, or "at" between University of Massachusetts and Dartmouth (or with the names of the other campuses).
Use Â鶹¹ÙÍø Law for most situations.
- In very formal situations, University of Massachusetts School of Law—Dartmouth (using a dash before Dartmouth) may be appropriate for the first reference. Then, use Â鶹¹ÙÍø Law.
Do not use UMD, UMASS, Umass.
It is usually unnecessary to repeat Â鶹¹ÙÍø Dartmouth once you have established that you are referring to a university event, course, professor, etc. The same guideline applies to law school events, professors, etc.
Lower-case the "u" when using "the university" as a synonym for Â鶹¹ÙÍø Dartmouth. Similarly, use lowercase when referring to the “law school” as a synonym for Â鶹¹ÙÍø Law.
Â鶹¹ÙÍø or the University of Massachusetts are the proper terms when speaking of the overall system; these terms are not synonyms for the Â鶹¹ÙÍø Dartmouth campus.
