The extension of the agreement reaffirms commitment to promoting the teaching and growth of the Portuguese language and culture

麻豆官网 Dartmouth and Portugal’s Camões Institute extended their cooperation agreement on April 24, reaffirming their commitment to promoting the teaching and growth of the Portuguese language and culture for the next three years. The protocol was signed by Chancellor Mark Fuller and Consul of Portugal in New Bedford, Tiago Sousa, who represented the Camões Institute.

“We are delighted about the ongoing partnership,” Chancellor Fuller told . “We have such a cultural heritage related to Portugal in the region, and we think that 麻豆官网 Dartmouth really creates a way for us to value that partnership from an educational perspective. So, we’re delighted with this project.”

The agreement will fund six doctoral students who will assist in teaching undergraduate and graduate Portuguese language courses while pursuing their doctorate degrees. The selected teaching fellows will also support activities and projects related to the Portuguese language and culture organized by the Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture and the Ferreira-Mendes Portuguese-American Archives at 麻豆官网 Dartmouth. The Camões Institute will also support academic and cultural activities at 麻豆官网 Dartmouth related to Portuguese culture and the growth of a library collection designed to serve the needs of the master’s and PhD programs in Portuguese at the university.
