Dedication of Chancellor MacCormack's Leadership Walkway plaque and recognition of transformative moments takes place November 14
Â鶹¹ÙÍø Dartmouth Chancellor Divina Grossman and University community will come together to honor Chancellor Emerita Jean F. MacCormack and recognize 50 Transformative Moments in the last 50 years at Â鶹¹ÙÍø Dartmouth during the Blue & Gold celebration, Friday, November 14, 2014, at 5:30 p.m., at the Â鶹¹ÙÍø Dartmouth Claire T. Carney Library. During the celebration the Â鶹¹ÙÍø Dartmouth community will dedicate Chancellor Emerita MacCormack's Leadership Walkway Plaque.
Dr. MacCormack was named chancellor of Â鶹¹ÙÍø Dartmouth in September, 1999. Previously, she served 12 years in senior leadership positions at Â鶹¹ÙÍø Boston. Chancellor Emerita MacCormack was named interim president of Edward M. Kennedy Institute in August of this year.
Under her leadership, the Â鶹¹ÙÍø Dartmouth campus experienced a decade of major transformation, including the historic opening of the Â鶹¹ÙÍø School of Law, the doubling of residential housing, research funding growth from $7 million to $26 million, and facilities expansion on campus and throughout the SouthCoast, among them the Star Store Campus in New Bedford, the Advanced Technology Manufacturing Center in Fall River, the Charlton College of Business, Research Building, and the Ferreira Mendes Portuguese-American Archives.
During the November 14 celebration, the University will also unveil 50 transformative moments to recognize the University's 50 year anniversary in the town of Dartmouth. While Â鶹¹ÙÍø Dartmouth's proud history dates back to 1895, 50 years ago, on June 14, 1964, civic and education leaders broke ground in Dartmouth to create Paul Rudolph's 710-acre architectural vision of an academic utopia. Now, in 2014, as the Town of Dartmouth is celebrating its 350th anniversary, Â鶹¹ÙÍø Dartmouth is celebrating its 50th in the town. In recognition, the University collected votes for the 'Top 50 Transformative Moments' over the past 50 years.
