Cross Country Style 5K to Benefit Special Olympics of Massachusetts
The Â鶹¹ÙÍø Dartmouth Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) have organized a 5K cross-country style road race through the campus of Â鶹¹ÙÍø Dartmouth taking place this Sunday, April 13, 2014, at 10:00 a.m., at Â鶹¹ÙÍø Dartmouth. The race, now in its third year, is held to raise funds toward Special Olympics of Massachusetts.
Those interested in participating in the race may register by visiting www.3craceproductions.com. Registration the day of the race begins at 8:00 a.m, at Â鶹¹ÙÍø Dartmouth's Tripp Athletic Center. The race will be professionally timed by 3C Race Productions. Participants are encouraged to park in Lot 7. The course is a cross-country style 5K which will venture through the campus of Â鶹¹ÙÍø Dartmouth. The entry fee for adults is $15 if preregistered and $20 on race day. Students and seniors pay $7 if preregistered and $10 race day. Special Olympics athletes may participate for free.
Raffle tickets are being sold leading up to the race. The raffle is being sponsored by Days Sports in Fairhaven, MA. Prizes include gift cards from Day's Sports, Soccer World in Seekonk, MA, and restaurants including Cheesecake Factory, Texas Roadhouse, and Wasabi. Additional prizes include an autographed photo of Shawn Thornton of the Boston Bruins and a Boston Red Sox photo from the 2013 World Series. The Â鶹¹ÙÍø Dartmouth SAAC especially appreciates the support received by the University's Student Government Association.
A moment of silence is scheduled at the Â鶹¹ÙÍø Dartmouth Peace Tree prior to the race. In September, students planted a ceremonial peace tree at the Â鶹¹ÙÍø Dartmouth Track Field during the opening ceremony of the Â鶹¹ÙÍø Dartmouth Shriners Cross Country Invitational. The tree was planted in honor of those killed and wounded in the Boston Marathon bombing and the brave medical and public safety officials who were on scene during the April 15 attack.
