Law School Receives Top Ranking from Nationally Recognized Lawyers of Color
The University of Massachusetts School of Law at Dartmouth (Â鶹¹ÙÍø Law) has been named a Top 5 Eastern Regional Law School for Black Students in the second edition of the Lawyers of Color (LOC) Black Student's Guide to Law Schools 2014. Admission standards, cost, black student population, and regional legal job market were among the main factors considered by LOC's editorial board, advisers, law fellows, and consultants who contributed to the decision making process.
"As the Commonwealth's public law school, Â鶹¹ÙÍø Law has a special responsibility to create access to law school and to enroll a diverse student body," said Mary Lu Bilek, Dean of Â鶹¹ÙÍø Law. "We embrace that responsibility because we know that diversity increases the value of our educational program, creates a community that welcomes students from underrepresented communities in the profession, and increases the possibility that our laws will reflect the Constitutional values of fairness and equality."
Rutgers School of Law-Newark University of Connecticut School of Law, the State University of New York Buffalo Law School, and the City University of New York School of Law are the other four selected for the eastern region. LOC was initially founded as On Being A Black Lawyer but now also produces publications for lawyers of South Asian American, Pacific Asian American, Hispanic, and Native American heritage. LOC has been recognized by the American Bar Association, National Black Law Students Association, and National Association of Black Journalists.
Â鶹¹ÙÍø Law is the only public law school in Massachusetts and was established in 2010. It is conveniently located 30 miles from Providence, RI, and 60 miles from Boston, MA.
